ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 8 -- United States Patent no. 7,881,311, issued on Feb. 1, was assigned to Hitachi Ltd. (Tokyo).
"Vpn Composing Method, Interwork Router, Packet Communication Method, Data Communication Apparatus, and Packet Relaying Apparatus" was invented by Kenichi Sakamoto (Tokyo), Kazuyoshi Hoshino (Fujisawa, Japan), Koji Wakayama (Kokubunji, Japan), Shiro Tanabe (Hidaka, Japan) and Noboru Endo (Kodaira, Japan).
According to the abstract released by the U.
S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method serves to compose a VPN (Virtual Private Network) over a plurality of networks, each of which is managed by a different Internet Service Provider (ISP). When a packet with a first capsule header used for composing a VPN in a first ISP network is transmitted to a second ISP network, a route for outputting the packet to the second ISP network is determined based on the information both in the capsule header and in the IP header. In addition, a second capsule header used for composing a VPN in the second ISP network is determined based on the above information."
The patent was filed on July 8, 2003, under Application No. 10/614,134.
