Fed: Fischer blasts Seattle protesters

Former trade minister TIM FISCHER has blasted protesters at the World Trade Organisation
talks in the United States, calling them remnants from the 1960s protest movement.

He says the protesters are a blast from the past and he's urged them to look at the
success of the WTO in creating jobs around the world.

Mr FISCHER was speaking on the Gold Coast where he accepted a position as a visiting
Professor at Bond University's new Fischer Centre of International Trade, Development
and Diplomacy.

Thousands of demonstrators have disrupted the talks in Seattle, accusing the WTO of
being responsible for a range of problems including destroying the environment and undermining
workers' rights.
