QLD:GetUp gets behind Assange

Internet-based activist group GetUp will advertise in major newspapers in Australia
and the United States .. calling for fair treatment for WikiLeaks founder JULIAN ASSANGE.

GetUp .. which claims 400-thousand members .. wants Australians to sign on to a statement
about Mr ASSANGE .. currently under arrest in Britain and facing sex charges in Sweden.

The ad will run in the Washington Post and New York Times.

The campaign will advertise in Australian newspapers according to the level of support
it receives.

GetUp director of campaigns .. SAM MCLEAN .. says our government should stand up for
the rights of citizens like Mr ASSANGE.
